“Sport has the power to change the world…to inspire … to unite people,” these were the words of Nelson Mandela that inspired the different companies in the Cordillera region to converge and participate in the first CALMACAVAR-NCMB Cup in the City of Baguio.
Twenty one (21) establishments from Mt. Province, Benguet and Baguio City participated in the different events of the sports festival. These are BENECO, Benguet Corporation-Balatoc with 2 teams, Benguet Corporation – Irisan Project, CANITALK Academy, Hedcor, Inc., Lepanto Mining, The Manor at Camp John Hay, MOPRECO, SN Aboitiz, UFESLU, University of Baguio and the University of the Cordilleras, all members of the CALMACAVAR. Baguio Vegetable Savings Credit Cooperative (BAVESCO), MY Taxi. Ph. Inc. (GRABB), Timber and Lime Multipurpose Cooperative, TF Café-Abanao, Pinwork Acoustic Bar, Dyna Enterprises, and Ballers Bloopers are not official members of the association but will soon be joining the group. DepEd, Red Cross Baguio and private individuals also joined the darts tournament.
The winners of the different events are BENECOfor basketball, TP Café-Abanaofor darts, and UC, SN Aboitiz, BENECO, and The Manor for the different categories in the fun run. Unfortunately, thebowlers of the University of Baguio were not able to defend their title in the 7th Bowling Tournament as they were unseated by BAVESCO.
The one month festivity was jointly organized by the NCMB and the Cordillera Association of Labor and Management Cooperation and Advocates of Voluntary Arbitration (CALMACAVAR), to strengthen the bond and camaraderie among the members of the association through sports. It was also a fund-raising affair for the organization to support their projects and activities for 2017.
The sports festival finally ended on December 16, 2016.
