Poverty is not solely an economic issue, but rather a multidimensional phenomenon that encompasses a lack of both income and the basic capabilities to live in dignity. It is for this purpose that the National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty came about. The week-long celebration commences on October 17 and ends on October 25 every year.
The Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board-Cordillera Administrative Region as a partner in poverty reduction, took part to fight against extreme poverty and promotion of human rights and dignity. Recitation of the Universal Prayer testimonies from the poor, pledges of support to agency program and Panata were included in the Flag Raising Ceremony.
The National Day for the Overcoming Extreme Poverty was declared through Proclamation No. 269 as the Philippines’ response to the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty which was promulgation by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 47/196.
