Workers’ rights are human rights.  It is for this reason that the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board-Cordillera Administration Region (RCMB-CAR) took part in the Commission of Human Rights’ project on the institutionalization of Community Based Dialogue Sessions on Human Rights between the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Civil Society Organizations and Local Communities in the Region.

Director Brenda Rose C. Odsey of RCMB-CAR thoroughly discussed the joint declaration undertaken by the DOLE, DILG, DND, DOJ, PNP and AFP relative to the exercise of workers’ rights and activities.  The thematic session on labor served as an avenue for the discussion of the basic rights of workers specifically on the right to self-organization.  Labor disputes and concerted actions, instances, procedures and limitations of the security sectors to respond to such conflicts were discussed.

The project’s aim to deepen the participants’ understanding and awareness on the various labor issues is an opportunity for the Branch to network with other agencies in the promotion of Industrial Peace in the Cordillera.

This capability building, attended by various CSOs, personnel of AFP, LGUs and National Government Agencies, was held on July 18, 2019 at the Eurotel, Abanao St., Baguio City.
